Isle - Japan Hosted Microsoft Exchange Service

I find having seamless wireless sync between my PC and phone one of the biggest benefits of using a Windows Mobile phone. I use a hosted Microsoft Exchange provider so I just pay a monthly fee and don't have the hassle and cost of setting up my own server.

I use 4smartphone.net but users in Japan have a local solution from Isle starting at 1,575 yen/month/user.

My Impressions of X02HT

I was lucky enough today to try out the X02HT in Bic Camera at Ikebukuro. The first hand impression of the device was good, and although the device does not have a touch screen, it seemed to do a great job with the Windows Mobile 6.0 OS. I personally prefer having both a touch screen and buttons, but that depends on the person.

There was no surpise to me using the device though, because many phones nowadays have almost the same capabilities as the X02HT, excluding the Wireless LAN. I guess the major plus to this device is the availability of the softwares developed by third parties, which are available on the internet. Also, if you are a developer, it will be a great device to develop programs for the Windows Mobile.

The device will cost about 33,000yen to 36,000 yen for users who used Softbank(Vodafone) for more than two years to buy the device. (No further payment needed).

W-ZERO 3es with USB host

I created a USB host cable on my own with some junk parts. The making process is pretty simple, just get a miniUSB B cable and a normal A USB cable. The soldering instructions are available in Japanese here, and after several hours of soldering, I finally managed to make a lot of USB devices work, including a USB keyboard, USB reader, iPod Video 2nd generation 30GB.

The W-ZERO3es becomes a very useful device when you connect a USB keyboard, and if you get a mobile USB keyboard, you will almost have a same kind of environment of a mobile laptop.

Please do this at your own risk, and if you are not confident to solder on your own, it is also available through an online store.
