RouteFinder is new Japanese navigation software for Windows Mobile going on sale early this month. The software is only available in Japanese. The software is available online at long time PDA & smartphone retailer PDAKobo.
Having a Windows Mobile phone (i.e. something that's likely to be with you even more and therefore even more convenient than a PDA) opens up additional opportunities for learning Japanese and using reference tools such as dictionaries.
A search of Handango (long one of the leading vendors of software for Windows Mobile) currently lists gives 152 results when searching for Japanese in the Windows Mobile Professional (i.e. X01HT-like) category. Unfortunately there are only 7 matching apps for WM Standard (i.e. X02HT-like) devices, but still that's a good enough selection to be able to find something useful. (The X02HT is not listed on the site so choose the T-Mobile Dash with is a very similar device).
I'll aim to do some more in-depth reviews of some of the best Japanese software over the coming months.
The Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine's Encyclopedia of Software is an amazing resource for users of Windows Mobile Devices.
Enhancing and complementing the Encyclopedia are the 'Best Software Awards'. A huge amount of effort goes into putting together the awards. The judges are Windows Mobile fanatics and really know their stuff. As as result, it's usually the case that whatever software they judge to be best in one of the many categories, pretty much always is the best. It can save shoppers a huge amount of time trying out competing software. The awards are every year so the content is also fresh.
Nominations for the 2007 awards have opened and the list is open for "public scrutiny and feedback" so help ensure the awards this year are better than ever by sending in your comments.
